SHIMANO DURA-ACE ST-7800 LEVERS
The newly redesigned Dura-Ace 7800 STI levers are here! These are the shifters you’ve seen on Lance’s bike and now they can be on yours. They boast a new, more ergonomic design and of course, an extra click to accomodate the new 10 speed drivetrain. Shimano has carefully examined the needs of road cyclists and incorporated changes into the levers to meet those needs. The lever is now narrower and the hood has been reduced in circumference by 5mm, accomodating more hand shapes and reducing the need to change hand positions on longer rides.
The shifting mechanism itself has also been improved. Each shifter has a shorter stroke, and now move slightly inward (with most travel in the side to side plane) so that they’re easier to push through the full range of movement. Shift effort for upshifts has been reduced as well, yielding faster shifting to higher cogs or the big ring.
Velonews states “if real world performance is even a fraction of what we’re seeing here at press camp, 2004 Dura-Ace sets a new standard in shifting”. All the component innovation of weight, strength, rigidity, precision and power culminate in that simple hand movement to create the smoothest most efficient transfer of power in cycling. It’s peerless. It’s Dura-Ace.
